Event planning in Lahore: start with the basics
Every event in Lahore, from a dholki at home to a 400-guest walima or an office annual dinner, comes down to the same early decisions: the date, the guest count, the venue and the budget. Get those four right and everything else follows.
Choosing a season
- Winter (roughly November to February) is the busiest wedding season, so popular venues and suppliers book up early.
- Spring evenings suit outdoor functions at farmhouses and lawns.
- Summer heat favours air-conditioned halls and hotels.
- Monsoon brings sudden rain; outdoor events need cover.
- Smog season can affect outdoor events; check current government advisories before fixing an outdoor date.
The rules every function follows
The Punjab Marriage Functions Act 2016 requires wedding ceremonies at venues to end by 10 pm and limits the food served to guests to one dish. Lahore's district administration enforces it actively, inspecting halls, marquees and farmhouses, with fines and sealing for violations reported in 2025 and 2026. Loudspeakers are separately covered by the Punjab Sound Systems (Regulation) Act 2015. As reported from the bill text, the Act also restricts lighting outside the venue building, fireworks and aerial firing.
This is general information, not legal advice. Rules and enforcement change; confirm the current position with your venue before fixing your schedule.
Venues
Lahore's main venue types are banquet halls, marquees, hotel ballrooms, farmhouses and homes. Each suits different functions and budgets. See our venue guide and venue assistance.
Budget
Catering, charged per guest, is usually the largest cost. Build your budget from guest numbers outward. Our budget guide and calculator help you start.
Suppliers
Most events need a caterer, a decorator, a photographer and sound. Get written quotes that list what's included, confirm setup times with the venue, and give every supplier the same schedule.
A simple planning timeline
- Months ahead: date, guest count, budget, venue.
- Next: caterer, decorator or planner, photographer.
- A few weeks before: invitations, menu, decor design, schedule.
- Final week: confirm numbers, payments and setup times.
- On the day: one person in charge of timings.
What an event planner does in Lahore
An event planner manages the whole event rather than one part of it. Their responsibilities usually include helping choose the venue, building the budget, designing the decor, booking and briefing suppliers, preparing the schedule and running the day itself. An event manager is a similar role, often used for corporate events, where the focus is on the agenda, AV, registration and guests rather than the look.
You do not have to hand everything over. Many families keep the caterer they already trust and ask a planner to handle decor, timings and the day. See our event planning services for the options.
Event planning in Lahore around the 10 pm limit
Because functions at venues must end by 10 pm, work the schedule backwards. If food has to be served by about 9 pm, the main stage moment, such as the rukhsati or the couple's entry, needs to happen well before that. Build in time for guests arriving late, photos with family and the venue clearing the hall.
